Thank you for your interest in data collected in the Vietnam Health and Aging Study (VHAS). All users of the Vietnam Health and Aging Study data are requested to complete the following data use proposal.  We recommend that all potential users review the VHAS publications and works-in-progress webpage in order to become familiar with completed and ongoing analyses of the data and avoid replication of others’ work.  For coauthored manuscript proposals, just one author can complete the proposal for the authorship team. In addition, all international publications utilizing the VHAS data must include at least one international principal investigator and one Vietnamese senior researcher as coauthors; please be sure that your application includes one of the VHAS co-investigators from Vietnam.  Applications will be reviewed by lead VHAS personnel and a data access/approval decision will be provided within 10 working days of receipt of the application.

Upon being granted approval for use of the data, applicants will have three months to begin to execute the proposed project.  A status report will be requested at that time.  If proposed work has yet to begin, a new application must be submitted.

All VHAS data users must comply with the VHAS data sharing and co-authorship policy. This policy will be shared with the applicant upon approval of the data request. In particular, the following publication should be cited for description of the VHAS study methodology:

Korinek, K., Teerawichitchainan, B., Zimmer, Z., Brindle, E., Nguyen, T. K. C., Nguyen, H. M., & Tran, K. T. (2019). Design and measurement in a study of war exposure, health, and aging: protocol for the Vietnam health and aging study. BMC public health, 19(1), 1-11.

VHAS users should also include the following acknowledgement in their written work:  "This analysis uses data from the Vietnam Health and Aging Study (VHAS).
